Community Solar

Have you always been interested in going solar, but have not been able to? Mt Laurel Township residents are now able to participate in the NJ Board of Public Utilities newest clean energy program, community solar.  It was designed so that everyone can access the great benefits of solar energy, regardless of housing or financial situation. If you are a metered customer of PSE&G, you can sign-up! This includes renters, homeowners, non-profits, religious institutions, etc. Essentially, instead of having solar panels put on your own roof, you would subscribe to part of a large solar array located on a nearby commercial rooftop. If accepted into the program, you would be guaranteed overall energy savings.  At least fifty percent of the program participants are reserved for low-to-moderate income households.  We are hopeful that more local businesses will be approved as community solar partners expanding this opportunity for even more residents.

As of January 2023, Mt Laurel PSE&G customers can sign-up to join a NJBPU-approved community solar project through Solar Landscape.

Community Solar

What is Community Solar?
Community solar is a Board of Public Utilities clean energy state program that approves large solar installations to be built locally and connected to the community electricity grid, enabling local households to access the clean energy at a discount indirectly without installing solar themselves. This allows all community members including those who live in apartment buildings/condos, those who don’t want to put solar on their property, or can’t afford solar to join local clean energy and save money.

What is the discount?
A household that signs up will receive a guaranteed 25% discount every month on the electricity generated by solar and allocated to the account. This discount will start as soon as the solar project is energized, which is expected to be around February 2023. Subscribers that sign up now will be securing their spot on the project since these projects have limited capacity.
How does it work?
A resident would sign up using an invite code and provide access to their account with PSE&G. They pay a third-party Arcadia, which coordinates secure payment of the regular bill minus the discount and provides the subscriber with a summarized bill. There are no changes to the property and no fees to sign up or cancel. The billpayer's account with PSE&G remains as is and can be checked any time online as before. If currently enrolled in autopay with PSE&G, it will have to be discontinued first. After completing sign-up, the process is seamless.
